Historical swordsmanship has been practised in Jyväskylä since March 2006, when the local brach of School of European Swordsmanship was founded and Guy Windsor was invited to lead the first official classes. Since then the magnitude of the activity has steadily grown and numerous beginner's courses have been arranged, with a minimum of two per year.
In January 2007 the members of the branch founded a registered association, Jyväskylän historiallisen miekkailun seura ry (or JHMS), to further coordinate the activity and to promote historical swordsmanship in Jyväskylä. Today JHMS functions as an independent affiliated association of School of European Swordsmanship.
After being founded, JHMS has had demonstrations in events such as Yläkaupungin Yö 2007 and 2008, and in other private events.
JHMS arranges regular weekly practise and several seminars per year, led mainly by the school's founder, a professional historical swordsmanship teacher Guy Windsor, or by some of his students.
Association's member register and minutes can be found at society's google group's pages or at society's training salle. You can read association's rules in Finnish here.
